Back on

Well, I had cut out caffeine completely this summer, but the race season is now over for me, and stress has started to pile on, which inevitably leads to consumption of caffeine. It's not too bad yet, but I have already gained a few pounds in the last month and a half. This addiction stuff sucks.

Just don't give up! When you fall, just get back up again! What your trying to do is very good for you! When you're stressed, do something else--like exercise on the treadmill, or just take a walk-exercise may reduce stress, read a book, lift weights, do an activity you like to do that will help you keep your mind off caffeine and aspartame, and may even help reduce the stress. If you continue to do this, eventually, you should not have cravings anymore.

Good luck! Keep me posted!

Okay, I am posting a comment on this blog because I have similar symptoms. I was diagnosed with a kidney umor in 2006 and had it removed laparoscopically. A few weeks before the surgery, I had a huge pain attack in my kidney after drinking a large amount of diet coke. So I swore then and there that I would never have another diet coke again. I kept this promise straight until last summer, when during my son's college orientation I was dying of thirst and there was nothing to drink except diet coke. So I drink one and thoought, what can it hurt. Since that time, everytime I drink a diet coke, I start to cough. I have the exact same reaction as the original post. It's as if I am alergic to the diet coke, and I cough for at least 24 hours until I get rid of the diet coke from my system completely. Unfortunately, the same thing is now true of unsweet iced tea and sometype of sugar additive, like sweet and low or splenda (although I stopped drinking splenda a while ago because of the warnings). Both the diet coke and the artificially sweetened iced tea make me begin a cycle of hack coughing that sounds like I am dying. I don't know if it's the artificial sweetener or the caffeine or some combination of both. I can drink decaffinated coffee with no problems. Funny - I started wondering if there is not something in the set-up of the diet coke and/or tea that adds to the process that makes me cough. By the way, this happens with diet coke and diet pepsi. Let me know what you've found out.
